When we started researching the Gypsy Vanner breed, we came across an amazing and famous riding and driving gelding, Bowtie! We viewed the videos of Bowtie being driven by Jeff Bartko, of Black Forest Shires and Gypsy Horses, across England to Appleby Fair in June 2004. His proud stature, and willingness and eagerness to work were clearly evident when he pulled the Gypsy vardo wagon. Imagine our surprise when we learned that not only was he in this country, but was available for purchase in Southern California! While visiting Bowtie, then owned by Ben Eby, we were fortunate to see Bowtie participate in a dressage practice session. Bowtie appeared to float across the arena – absolute elegance in motion! The decision to buy Bowtie on the spot was a “no-brainer” and we continue to be in awe of this fabulous boy!

Ron and Bowtie have participated in several breed demonstrations, as well as several driving competitions. They earned a 2nd place ribbon at the Liberty Horse Classic in Cleveland, TN in their very first obstacles driving competition. Look forward to continued success for these two in driving – Bowtie is taking names!!!
